Google Acquires a Virtual Assistant ‘Alfred’, But Still a Long Way To Go To Compete Siri

Those Android users who have been keenly waiting for a fully functional and integrated reply to the Apple’s Siri sadly would have to wait a little bit longer. It was announced on Tuesday by Google that it has acquired a company named Clever Sense, which is credited for developing the app called Alfred, and plays the role of a digital personal assistant. However the terms and conditions of the deal has not been disclosed yet.
It was revealed after a confirmation with Google the Alfred app does not support the voice command capabilities however just like Siri, it performs the Internet searches and offers the users useful information and suggestions regarding popular restaurant, bar and cafe, nightlife options and etc. Besides Alfred also familiarizes with the user preferences and choices and after a time offers much more uniformed recommendations.
However Alfred has a lot to catch up on as its highly places competitor, Siri provides the users with all these benefits and in addition to that also answer queries regarding weather, news and directions.
It must be noted here that the app was about to be named Seymour but was changed later and the reasons being speculated in the market are perhaps its being names after the  Bruce Wayne’s confidant and butler in Batman.
“Today, we are excited to join Google and start a new chapter in curating the world around us,” Clever Sense said in a statement. “Together with the Google team, we will accelerate our efforts toward this shared vision. Google helps local businesses connect with potential customers, and its worldwide presence can bring the value of Clever Sense to a much larger audience.”
“Discovering local information is extremely important to both users and businesses, and the acquisition of Clever Sense will benefit both,” the company added.
Though Google has a long way to go before keeping up with Siri, but having Alfred seems like the right thing to do. It is very anticipated that Google has a voice recognition software which will soon be functional in the Android and perhaps the features of Alfred and the voice recognition software may be augmented to enable Google take over Siri.
