Many people are surprised at how long it has taken Lenovo to release a tablet, but now it looks like they have more than one almost ready for release. The Lenovo IdeaPad K1 is almost here, as is the IdeaPad P1 and the ThinkPad
The IdeaPad K1 features Android 3.1 and a 10.1 inch display, together with an NVIDIA dual-core Tegra 2 processor, dual cameras, memory expansion via microSD, and support for USB connections. The 10 inch screen has a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and the cameras are 5MP on the back and 2MP on the front.
Other features include a dedicated home button, 2GB of free cloud based storage, in-built social networking applications, and online protection via Norton Mobile Security. Although this Android device will be able to access the regular Android store, it will also support a dedicated Lenovo application store with its own selection of software.
This tablet is expected to start shipping in the US sometime towards the end of July, although some parts of the world will have to wait until August or September. WiFi and 3G versions will both be available, with a starting price of $449 USD for the basic 16GB Wi-Fi model.
Lenovo has also announced other tablet releases to follow from the K1 later in the year, including the IdeaPad P1and the ThinkPad tablet for business customers. The P1 will feature an unspecified 1.5GHz processor and a Windows 7 OS, and the ThinkPad is essentially a K1 with extra software for business users.
In a press release about the new tablets, Alan Munro, Vice President and Managing Director of Lenovo Australia and New Zealand had this to say about the new tablets:

We have listened to our customers and are delivering Android tablets designed to meet their particular needs.”
