Each day throws us further into the software war hackers are waging against Apple. Seeking bold new mobile web hosting abilities and the power to come face to face with their devices’ root operating systems, jailbreaking software hackers continue to up the ante.
The newest untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 uses the dual-core A5 processor and is the lovechild of a team of different hackers who say that each new device that is released is getting hard and harder to crack. Will this take the steam out of jailbreaking? Probably not. The new “Absinthe,” which for a while was only available on the iPhone 4, 3GS, and original iPad as a “corona” jailbreak, was recently unveiled for both the 4S and the iPad 2 after 10 months of painstaking work. The reason for the difficulty was that the hackers had to bypass the stringent permissions and securities Apple built into their newer A5 devices.

China Times reports that the iPhone 5 has entered a trial production phase and will feature a larger screen. Purported iPhone 5 parts have already leaked that seem to match the claim of a four-inch screen . The iPhone 5 itself is expected to have a similar form factor as the current model, with the display reaching all the way to the edge of the device.
The rendering above by Piotrek Photos shows how a larger iPhone 5 screen might compare to the current iPhone 4 display. This news comes as the New York Times has confirmed Apple is working on near-field communication (NFC) technology so that future iPhones can easily make wireless mobile payments at specially equipped cash registers. The NFC hardware would be integrated with the iPhone processor and linked directly to the owner's iTunes account.

Samsung: One In Ten South Koreans Now Owns A Samsung Galaxy S II

It’s not really news to say that the Galaxy S II is a hit, but it has actually become a mega hit in South Korea. According to maker Samsung, the Android handset has been sold a whopping 5 million times in its domestic market since release at the end of April 2011. In other words, a little more than 10% of the country’s entire population (48 million people) are now proud owners of the phone.
It’s the first cell phone that has reached this milestone in mobile-crazy South Korea, according to Japanese business daily The Nikkei. The paper also says that one out of four South Korean smartphones users owns a Galaxy S II (sounds like feature phones don’t play a big role in that country anymore).
In 2011, Samsung commanded a 53% market share in South Korea’s smartphone industry.
The company recently decided not to take legal action against its fiercest competitor, Apple, in its home market – despite being in a patent war with the iPhone maker the whole world over. It looks like Samsung can afford it.
